Grandma's Rocking Chair for May 26, 2013

 Question for today:
What is StazOn and the difference between a regular ink pad and StazOn.

There are different kinds of ink and each kind has it's own purpose and is good for stamping certain things.  Since the question is about StazOn lets start with that one and work our way through them.

StazOn - That is a brand name.  It is a permanent solvent based ink. It is acid free.  It drys fast and does not need to be heat set. Is mainly used for non-porous surfaces such as plastic, window sheets, cellophane bags, glass, plates, ceramics. It does not come off your stamps with water or Stampin' Mist, you must use StazOn cleaner (don't drop it on your rug, ink side down). You can use it for stamping on card stock, I like to use it to stamp on the Cellophane bags and window sheets - works great for the Stain Glass Technique. Stampin' Up! sells Black and White StazOn but it also comes in other colors.  Best thing about StazOn Black is the great smell.

Dye Based Ink - Stampin' Up!s Classic Ink - Water based dye inks are the most popular inks. They are mainly for card stock and paper.  On Card Stock they dry fast, which helps prevent smearing. On fabric they soak in and since they are water based they will wash out.  Stampin' Up! Classic inks are acid free.  You can clean your stamps with water or Stampin' Mist. It will not dry on non porous surfaces so I would not not recommend for plastics, window sheets or glass.  You may find that it does fade over time - though I have a card I stamped over 5 years ago and it has yet to fade. Since it is water soluble it is great to use for water coloring.  They do soak into the card stock and are great to use for Mono color Stamping (stamping the same color as the card stock, like watermarking), because of that they will not be a true color on other colored card stock.  They will run if caught in the rain.  I use this for my cards, 3-D projects involving card stock or designer series paper.

Pigment Based Ink - Stampin' Up!s Craft Ink.  They are thicker than the dye based inks and take a longer time to dry, you may want to dry them with a heat tool.  You can use them on a variety of surfaces.  They are usually acid free.  Since they do not absorb into the card stock like dye based inks they give a true color when stamping of other color of card stock. Can be cleaned up with water or Stampin' Mist, a little more work needed than the dye based ink. Stampin' Up! only sells Whisper White which is great for using on black card stock.  You can also make other colors by either getting the whisper white and adding colored re-inker or getting an empty pad and the whisper white refill and then adding re-inker.  I use this for chalkboard technique, for true color stamping on other colored card stock - I have a pad I made up with Pumpkin Pie for my Halloween cards.  I also use it for stamping on fabric - you do have to heat set it.

Watermark Ink - VersaMark.  Also referred to as Embossing ink as it is used for embossing.  It is on the order of a pigment ink but clear. Used for tone on tone stamping, makes it appear a few shades darker on the Card Stock.Takes a long time to dry unless heated. Use to emboss.  You can clean the same as pigment ink, water or Stampin' Mist, again may take a little more to clean.  It is sticky to can be used with heat and stick powder and for embossing.  You can also stamp a stamp with VersaMark and then a classic ink and use clear embossing powder to have any color for embossing.  I love it and use it all the time.  Don't worry if the pad becomes yellow or brown it will still work and does stamp clear.

Thanks for stopping by.  If you have any questions please leave them in the comments or e-mail me at nuhddad @ gmail.com (take out the spaces).

Grandma's Rocking Chair - Questions and Answers

Good Evening,

Time to sit in Grandma's Rocking Chair and ask those Questions.

Today's Question:
I hear people talking about line stamps what are they?  Are they just a stamp with lines?

Answer:
A line stamp is a stamp like that from a coloring book, made up of simple thin lines to make a picture.
This is an example of a line Stamp.

I like them since I love to color you can color them in.  Great for water coloring, shading, Stain Glass technique.

You will also hear about Solid Stamps they are stamps that are filled in, solid.  Like these:

These are good for single color stamping, mono color stamping to do backgrounds, rock and roll technique, and kissing technique.

Hope this answers your question.

Please keep sending your questions in.  Either comment with your question or email me nuhddad @ gmail.com (remove the spaces).

Thanks for visiting.

Happy Stamping.

Do you want a good Stamping Deal? Do you want to get free stuff? Read below.

Good Afternoon

So you love Stampin' Up! stamps, paper and you really want a Big Shot I have two ways you can do that for a lot less money.

1.  Join my team. No need to sell, you don't have to do any parties or classes just join for $99 and receive $150 worth of Merchandise.  To make it better you can pick just what you want - If you want the big shot and some dies that is all you have to buy.  To make it even better yet no shipping like getting another 10% off.  If you bought just the Big Shot it would be $99.95 plus $10 for shipping and taxes.  Join my Team and for $99 plus taxes you can get the Big Shot plus $54 worth of anything else you might want (I would go for the Flower Folds Big XL die). To sweeten even more.  After you are a demo your first order within 45 days that is over $150 you get 30% off.  You just can't pass this up if you want to get the most for your money.  After that first order you get 20% all orders.  Even if you do't want to do parties or classes you still get the discount on your orders.  This offer is only good until May 30  head over to my Stampin' Up! site and join the fun

2. If you have a Stamping Party and your total reaches $350 you get an extra $30 worth of merchandise for a total of $80 worth of free merchandise so call now and reserve a date for that party. Parties must be closed by May 30.

Some answers to your questions about being a Demonstrator

What am I getting for my $99.00?
o   155.00 in merchandise of your choice from any of the active catalogs this amount is only till May 30th 2013 after that it's 125.00 in merchandise
o   No shipping charges, you only pay tax
·        Stay Active or Not?
o   $300 is all it takes to stay active on a calendar quarter
§  Ie: if you sign up today, this quarter does not count.  Your first quarter does not end until 9/30/2013.
·        Do I have to host workshops?
o   No you do not have to host workshops
·        Do I have to sell to other people?
o   No you do not have to sell to other people, you can be your own best customer
·        What is my discount?
o   Always starts at 20% and can be as high as 40%
o   If you place an order during your first 45 days after signing up you will get an additional 10% discount on order of $150.00 or more just in time for the new catalog :)
·        New products
o   Be the first to try new products in the new catalogs.
o   You can pre-order from the new catalogs and occasion catalog one month in advance. You will see the new catalog and be able to pre order on the same day.
·        Hostess Benefits
o   If your order qualifies for hostess benefits, you will receive them in addition to your 20% discount
·        Business or Hobby?
o   that decision is entirely up to you.
o   A great way to make additional income doing what you love
·        What if I do not meet the quarterly minimum?
o   You will be dropped as a demonstrator and you become my customer again
o   The merchandise is yours to keep!
·        Were you a demonstator and want to re-join Stamping Up
o   If you were a demonstrator under me and dropped you may rejoin my team immediately.
o   If you were a demonstrator under another upline and want to join my team you will need to wait 90 days after you dropped. So if you became inactive last July you can join NOW.

Grandma's Rocking Chair - Stamping Questions and Answers

Good Evening,

When I was growing up I thought I had the best grandma there was.  I could always climb on her lap and snuggle and ask her any question.  From Why is the sky blue? to Do you love me? and she would always answer my questions.  Thinking back I still think she was the best grandma.  So I thought I would start a column in honor of my Grandma and call it Grandma's Rocking Chair.

You can ask me any question about Stamping and Paper Crafts and I will try my best to answer them.  I may have to research it but it will be fun and informative.

So here goes the First Question.

Why do you like to use Glue Dots instead of SNAIL adhesive?

I do have preference for Glue Dots as most of you know.  Really my favorite Adhesive is Sticky Strip but I think it is more expensive and so Glue dots come in a second.  I do use Sticky Strip on most of the 3-D projects I work on because I have found nothing that will hold better.  So why glue dots.  I like to use them because they are convenient, easy to use, stick fairly well, and the price is right.  I can use 4 dots on a card front, when I use SNAIL  I tend to go over board and do all 4 sides.  I have also found that once you apply the glue dots and you sit on your card (yes I said sit on it) they stick really well -  I think it is the heat and weight (no comments on that one) that seals them well.  I have found that with SNAIL  my cards sometimes come off in pieces especially if I wait awhile to send them.  I really don't like to spend time on a great card  send it and then have someone tell me a piece fell off. I have tried sitting on the snail and it really does not help it like the glue dots.  Though I do use SNAIL when I have to mass produce a bunch of cards, say Christmas Cards, invitations etc.  It is faster I think than glue dots and I think if I send the cards quickly I don't have as much problems with the SNAIL.  So I do use, Sticky Strip, Glue Dots and SNAIL all for different reasons and for different purposes.

If you would like a question answered please leave a comment or e-mail me the question at nuhddad @ gmail.com (remove the spaces around the @).  I will post answers to questions Sunday.

Hope you enjoyed Grandma's Rocking Chair.

Stampin' Addicts 2013 Retiring Stamp Blog Hop Circle Circus

Hello,
Welcome to the Stampin Addicts Retiring Stamp Blog Hop.

Well I am excited this is my first Stampin' Addicts BlogHop.  I really hope you like everyone's blog and especially mine.  I choose Circle Circus as my Retiring stamp Set.  I have had so much fun with that set and really am sad to see it go.  It really makes a great background stamp.  The first card I used it on was a black and white card and it was amazing in black and white, in fact I used it only black and white for the first few times and then I experimented with color and I was off.

Well here are some of my cards that I have made with Circle Circus - goodbye old friend. Remember you have only to June 3, to get these great stamp sets and all the others that are retiring.

Supplies:  Stamp Sets – Circle Circus ( Clear 127784, $20.95 Wood 115778, $28.95), Bring on the Cake ( Clear 121958, $27.95, Wood 121899 $38.95); Ink – Classic Ink Pads Daffodil Delight ( 126944, $5.95), Old Olive ( 126953, $5.95), Tempting Turquoise ( 126952, $5.95), Melon Mambo ( 126948, $5.95); Card Stock – Melon Mambo 8 ½ x 5 ½” (115320, $6.95), Whisper White 4x4”(100730, $8.50), Tempting Turquoise 1 ½ x 4” (102067, $6.95); Accessories – Linen Thread (104199, $4.59), Glue Dots (103683, $4.95), Scallop Border Trim Punch ( 118402, $15.95), Perfect Polka Dots Impression Folder (117335, $7.95), Big Shot (113439, $99.95)

SNOW AGAIN it is May 1, and Stamping Newsletter

OK, Enough is Enough.  It is May 1 and this is what it looks like outside and it is still coming down and will until late this afternoon.  That is my husband standing next to my bug we have over 12 inches. 3-5 more predicted.  The kids have no school.  This is the 4th time Meigan will be missing her dance class and she is in a tizzy as the recital is in 2 weeks.  Yes Yes I know we need the water but it could come in rain and not snow. Don has to go to work they never close Target.  The plows haven't even been here yet.  Trees are bending, they can survive the wind but this is different.

Well today I will get my monthly newsletter out and do some videos since Meigan will be home.  I publish a monthly electronic newsletter and if you would like a copy mailed to you monthly please in the comments leave your e-mail address with spaces around the @ sign and I will add you to my list.

A lot of things happening in Stampin' Up! including some new photopolymer stamps.  Will up date you soon and soon as I get done shoveling again.
