This There's a Card Thursday has a great story with it.
We are in Big Bend National Park, we are volunteering in the Chisos Basin Campground as hosts. This year is the year of the bear. Last year we had a few bears. WE had a great year last year with a lot of rain so a lot of food and water, this year not so much so the the bears are down from the mountains and staying in the campground. These are small Mexican Black Bears not very aggressive and you can usually scare them off. They have not been humanized and do not associate our smell with food sources, our main duty is to make sure it stays that way. We tell folks to make sure to use bear boxes or vehicles for any food, smelly thing such as toothpaste, deodorant, suntan lotion etc. They are still coming in so we don't wan them to get use to the area. Our Wildlife Biologists have been coming up a lot and using their paintball guns to scare them away since our yelling and horns are not getting them to leave as much. I think they look at us and roll their eyes like a teenager and just ignore us.
Here are some of our visitors.
Check out the video of how to make this great Gate Fold Card.
