Grandma's Rocking Chair Question - How do you make a card base?
I start with a piece of cardstock 8 1/2 x 11. A standard A2 Card size is 5 1/2 x 4 1/4. You can get two card bases from one piece of cardstock.
There are two ways to cut the cardstock to get the same size card. They open differently and look a little different but same size.
First one I do most of the time is on the 11" side I cut that in half at 5 1/2 giving you a piece of cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2. Fold it in half and you get a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card. You can open it and decorate it two different ways.
This is what I call the bottom opening.
This is what I call the side opening.
Second way to cut is to cut the 8 1/2" side at 4 1/4 You still get a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card but the opening on the bottom looks like the other card base opening from the side.
This is a bottom open.
This shows the bottom opening.
You can also do card bases different sizes but these are the most popular sizes. My most other popular card size is a 3 x 3 which you use a 6 x 3 piece of cardstock to make. I usually use 12 x 12 cardstock to make my 3 x 3 cards, you can get 8 3 x 3 cards out of a 12 x 12 sheet.
Hope that helps you and card bases.
